Separation

Relationship breakdown can be uncertain, confusing and emotional

There is nothing in particular you need to do to be legally separated.

Separation means no longer committing to a joint enterprise or dream. Ending your relationship essentially means no longer sharing or supporting each other financially, emotionally, or intimately.

Generally it includes moving out of the shared home but on occasion a couple can be separated even if they both remain in the home.  What determines separation is the level of separation of resources – including emotional resources.
